STATUNGA ECOTOURS

Statunga eco-tours is a tourism firm/organization based in Kenya and whose main aim is to promote the conservation of nature and biodiversity through responsible tourism. The firm is based in Kisumu, western Kenya, but with activities covering the whole country and linkages in the wider the East Africa.
While the main aim of the organization is the conservation of nature, it believes that people can only best conserve that which benefits them in one or more direct ways.

The organization aims to boost conservation through;

  • Direct involvement in the planning, scheduling, coordination and implementation of exciting safaris for both local and international guests.
  • The creation of awareness amongst the local people, through training, on the benefits of conserving the ecosystems within and around which they live. How does the ecosystem benefit them and how can they gain more from it sustainably ?
  • Forming conservation based partnerships with the inhabitants of a given area and initiating ventures that enable them to benefit more directly from the tourism activities around them e.g. the communities conserve and improve the tourism sites, build hotels and other amenities while Statunga eco-tours makes the visitors available.
Individual approaches include:
  • Organizing outdoor ventures for schools, company staff, families and other organized groups. Activities include hiking, camping, outdoor games and bonding sessions.
  • Guided tours for both local and foreign tourists around tourism hotspots in Kenya with special emphasis on the western tourism circuit. The guiding involves both off the shelf itineraries and tailor made itineraries i.e. as per the wishes of the customer.
  • Team building exercises for company staffs, schools and colleges, other institutions etc.
  • Organizing family & group holydays, weekend excursions, travel etc.
  • Organizing workshops, conferences and other participative field events through which the communities can be educated on environmental conservation.
  • To encourage communities to conserve and develop potential sites within their areas for purposes of making them attractive and comfortable to visitors. The firm promotes the development of hotels (accommodation) and catering services by the communities or potential investors among them.
